Woman killed and infant injured by car that went out of control

A woman at an Anaheim apartment complex was trying to leave, backing out of the complex, when she somehow lost control of the car. She stepped on the gas, speeding up and slamming into the community gate.

Tragically, a 44-year-old woman was outside, pushing her infant granddaughter in a stroller. The woman was hit by the car and killed. The infant survived, but was hurt, according to local police.

The crash happened in the middle of the day, around 2:00 p.m.

The grandmother survived long enough to be taken to the hospital, as was the one-year-old child, but she passed away at the medical center.

The authorities noted that the driver was cooperating as they carried out their investigation. They did not think that alcohol or drugs played a role in the tragic crash.

The apartment complex that the woman was backing out of was apparently the same one where the grandmother lived, according to neighbors who spoke with local news crews. They said that the woman was always enjoying spending time with her grandchildren. One neighbor described them as "always full of joy."

Reports indicate that the grandmother was babysitting for the child when the accident occurred. The child's mother is the daughter of the woman who passed away.

This story shows just how quickly life can change forever because of one simple mistake, all during normal daily activities. If a loved one has been hurt or killed in a car accident, you may want to consider speaking to a California personal injury attorney about your rights to financial compensation.
